Kerasilk Treatment (My experience)

When growing up I always had very frizzy/curly hair, which growing up became a bit annoying for me.  I ended up purchasing my first set of hair straighteners when I was 11 years old and since that day I used them religiously.  Although I do love my GHD’s (I have linked the pair that I usually use), I was fed up of the damage that it was causing to my hair.

I work in London, therefore waking up at 6am every day is a task itself, let alone having to wake up and spend a good 15 minutes to straighten my hair.  I heard about some people getting straight perms which I consulted my hairdresser about. I really did want that natural poker straight glossy hair, but as my hair has had bleach applied to it in the past, the treatment would frazzle my hair.

As my hair isn’t virgin hair, another option was the Kerasilk treatment, also known as a ‘Brazilian blow-out’.  This is a treatment which uses glyoxylic acid, keratin and silk proteins which helps to smoothen the hair follicles. The Kerasilk treatment gives the best results on thick, frizy, damaged, dry and curly hair, therefore this was ideal for me to try out.

On the day of the treatment, my hair was thoroughly washed and dried to prep for the serum to be applied to my hair. My hair was blow dried and then sectioned into tiny layers, before the chemicals being brushed onto my hair (with emphasis on the parts of my hair that did tend to frizz up the most, such as nearer to the roots of my hair).  My hair was then straightened 3 times and left to really lock into my hair for around 15 minutes.  When the chemicals where straightened into my hair the steam which was released did make my eyes water and sting, however that was my only negative about the Kerasilk treatment.  My hair was washed again and after that, my hair was blitz dried and appeared to be very straight, which I did not expect as I thought it was only meant to relax the hair. I then had a quick trim to make sure that the ends of my hair were healthy.

The treatment came to £175 as my hair wasn’t too long and only shoulder length, and within this price I received my first set of Kerasilk shampoo and conditioner.

The Goldwell Kerasilk Shampoo and Conditioner help to pro-long the life of the treatment and help to put Kerasilk back into your hair.  The first two bottles lasted me 2 months and I am now on my second 2 bottles of the Shampoo and Conditioner.  It lasts so long as you only need the tiniest pea sized amount of the products for your hair, and if in doubt I just add more water to foam it up a little.  The other two products which I purchased on the day are the Keratase Resistance Ciment Thermique and the Goldwell Rich Keratin Silk Fluid.  The Keratase Resistance is a heat protectant which I apply to my hair when it is wet from the roots of my hair down to the ends.  The Silk Fluid is ‘extra keratin’ and helps to keep my hair feeling silky and smooth and also helping to make the treatment last as long as possible (also applied when wet).

Since getting the treatment, I have not used my GHD’s once and my hair is looking naturally straight, yet still has its natural volume which I am loving.  The treatment typically can last anywhere between 3-5 months.  I have had it now for 2-3 months and it is still looking and feeling as good as the first day I had it done.  It is also helping me to grow my hair and not have to keep damaging my hair, as the only damage it is currently receiving is a quick blitz with the hair dryer.

I would love to know your ‘hair care’ situation and know if you have had the same treatment before!

Favourite Fragrances Review

When I was a child, I remember going to my mum’s ensuite and always trying on all of her perfumes.  I always love having a scent for every occasion, which I can always have in the back of my mind as my ‘go to’s’; although I do love to try new fragrances all the time!  I have always found that I tend to go for fresh or chypre scents and tend to stay away from the woodier ones.  Also, some brands are just way too strong for me, and tend to give me headaches, even a couple of hours after applying them!  I have put my thoughts together and decided which are my absolute favourites that I currently have on the go and what occasions I wear them for.

Armani Si:

si.png

The Armani Si perfume is my evening ‘go to’ perfume which I have re-purchased and have now used for 2 years.  I love the feminine smell which helps give you more confidence and class.  The fragrance was released for women to have the confidence to say ‘yes’ to values that define her life and of course, the ‘Si’ on the bottle translating to yes from Italian (and Spanish).  The subtle gold ring that lines the bottom of the bottle symbolises the promise of eternity.  Armani describe this as the perfect engagement, wedding or anniversary gift, and I couldn’t agree anymore.  It makes a great gift and one which I gave to my mother as an early Christmas present.  If you are thinking of buying this fragrance for someone special, you can even get the bottle engraved with a special message!

This product comes in a variety of sizes:30ml, 50ml, 100ml and on some sites 150ml.  I typically tend to think that it is always worth buying the 100ml with fragrances as they last so long and it is a good buy.  I have bought this perfume in the 100ml and could never get sick of it.  I love that it lingers, so there is no need to re-apply or carry around the perfume in my hand bag.  I can sometimes even smell it in some of my clothing items still when I take it out of the wash!

Experts say that the Top notes of this fragrance are: Sicilian Bergamot, Mandarin Oil, Liquer de Cassis; the Heart notes are: Rose de Mai Absolute, Neroli Absolute, Egyptian Jasmine Absolute and the Base notes are:Patchouli Oil, Blond Woods, Amber, Orcanoxâ, Vanille Absolute.  This perfume is timeless and I’m sure it will be one of my favourites for years to come.

Chanel No 5:

chanel

What can I say?  This is just a classic.  As Chanel says, this is the essence of femininity! This the the scent that whenever I smell it, I think of my mum.  When I was younger, this was the fragrance that she used almost every day; however, at the time I was so young that I didn’t really wear this, as it is more of a ‘mature woman’ fragrance.

To me, this is the most timeless fragrance anyone can buy.  This is what I wear when I want to feel sophisticated.  Whether that be for an important meeting, interview, or really just any time you need a little confidence boost!  Whenever I’m walking down the street and pass by someone that is wearing this, I can tell straight away as it is so distinctive.  The fragrance comes in a classic minimalist designed bottle, which is hand-sealed with a baudruche film and and the lid is cut into a diamond like shape.  The simplicity of the bottle lets the fragrance really speak for itself, not to mention, it’s Chanels most iconic scent.

There’s a real variety of how you can try this fragrance, as Chanel have a range of items with this scent.  There is the: L’eau Eau De Toilette SprayEau De Parfum Spray, the ‘purse versions‘ of the scent, and also the deodorant and body lotion. You can purchase the No.5 fragrance in 7.5ml, 15ml, 30ml, 35ml, 50ml and 100ml.

Experts say that the Top notes of this fragrance are: neroli, ylang-ylang, bergamot, amalfi lemon and aldehydes; the Heart notes are: iris, jasmine, orris root, rose and lily-of-the-valley and the Base notes are: vetiver, musk, sandalwood, patchouli, oak moss, amber, vanille and civetta.  This is a perfume must have!

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium:

black opium

Black Opium is my most recent fragrances that my boyfriend purchased for me in Duty Free on our return from Barcelona.  I first smelt this perfume at work, my friend was wearing this and I just knew I had to get my hands on it!  I believe that this one of the most popular scents at the moment and is the ‘current fragrance favourite’ for many of you out there.

When I got the perfume, I was a little confused as to how to actually use the fragrance, as I didn’t realise that it was a ‘pull of lid’, rather than a lid that you squeeze.  As I was getting Black Opium, I was worried that the ‘glitter’ from the bottle would get all over my hands when I used it and just be a bit messy; however, the bottle just has the ‘glitter effect’ printed into the bottle, but also has the texture that glitter would give.  I think it’s so helpful that there’s the clear area in the centre of the perfume, so you can measure how much of the product you have used.

I love the floral scent that you get when you first spray this perfume and the way that when it gets dry it.  This fragrance comes in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml.  I actually have this perfume in the 30ml size, as this was the only size they had and I wanted to try it out before I bought the larger sizes as I was worried it would potentially be too strong and even give me a headache.  I have this in the original scent, but there are also limited edition versions including a hair mist (which I am yet to try)!  I’ve had this for over  month, used it regularly and have only used the tiniest bit.  All you really need is 1 or 2 squirts and you’re good to go, it’s definitely not one of those perfumes that you need to apply a lot of.  To me, this is definitely an evening scent that is ideal for a date night as it is quite a musky, mysterious scent.

Experts say that the Top notes of this fragrance are: Pink pepper, Orange blossom; the Heart notes are: Jasmine, Coffee and the Base notes are: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedarwood.  I will 100% be re-purchasing this in a larger size!

Marc Jacobs Daisy:daisy

Daisy is a nostalgic scent for me, as this if the first perfume I purchased when I was in my young teens.  I remember always getting this in the gift sets, so that I could also lather on the body lotion and shower gel to smell even more extra!  For me, this is the perfect everyday, daytime fragrance, although I would recommend it for the spring/summer seasons.

I only ever re-purchase the original perfume scent, as the other versions of the daisy perfume are too ‘floral scented’ for me and just don’t smell the same!  This is a ‘young-at-heart’ scent which is ideal for those of you who love those floral notes but also don’t want anything too heavy.  The bottle is sophisticated yet looks slightly vintage, due to the soft rounded edges and the unique shape of the bottle itself.  I love the lid which is in the shape of a few scattered flowers, altogether it’s simplistic, but so effective and classy.

This fragrances comes in 50ml and 100ml; however, you can also purchase the purse versions and the gift sets.  If you love the scent but want to be a bit more adventurous, there is a whole range of products such as Marc Jacobs Daisy Twinkle, Marc Jacobs Daisy DreamMarc Jacobs Daisy Kiss Eau, the list goes on!
Experts say that the Top notes of this fragrance are: Wild Berries, White Violet; the Heart note is: Jasmine Infusion and the Base note is: Sandalwood.  This is a staple in my fragrance collection.
I hope you have enjoyed reading what I enjoy wearing and are my go-to fragrances.  I’d love to hear what your favourite scents are or what you love to wear!

By Terry Favourites

Whenever I find an absolute makeup gem I always love to try out more products from the same brand.  I always prefer to purchase higher end makeup and skincare products as I love the luxurious packaging that they come in and also find that they last on the skin for longer.  Working on Regent Street, I always walk into Space NK which is also my favourite luxury beauty retailer and end up finding products that I fall in love with.

By Terry’s founder, Terry de Gunzburg, may be known as a bit of a makeup guru.  She was the International Makeup Designer of YSL Beauté for 15 years and also invented makeup classics such as the YSL Touché Eclat in 1992.  The Expert range was launched in September 2017 and was produced for women who are ‘on the go’ and can’t spend hours doing their makeup but can be touched up throughout the day if need be.

by terry collection

I have a small selection of the By Terry products as I like to build up my makeup collections over time.  I have thoroughly enjoy using each product and have had to re-purchase the Stylo-Expert Click Stick.

Baume de Rose:

The Baume de Rose is a bit more of a luxurious lip balm than the average lip balm in a tube that you twist up and rub on your lips. When you apply the Baume de Rose not only does it feel velvety and luxurious but it also has a sheen, so it looks great by itself if you want a ‘no makeup, makeup’ look.  It is also known to be considered the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of lip balms, which I cannot argue.  The lip balm has a flowery scent and as it has Vitamin E, it keeps the lips feeling moisturised.  It also has partial protection against UV rays as it has Titanium Dioxide which makes a barrier on the lips and reflects light away from them.

I adore the sheek packaging and how it looks so expensive in the little tub.  I tend to apply the Baume de Rose with a lip brush, as I like to only apply the product where I need it and don’t like it going all over my mouth and fingers, but that’s just my personal preference!  The product retails for £39 and can be purchased in Space NK.

Stylo-Expert Click Stick:

I love the formula of the Stylo-Expert Click Stick as it applies to the skin smoothly.  It is ideal for any little coverups for blemishes that you may have.  The formula of the concealer has I.M.C® technology which means that it is able to hide wrinkles, dark circles, fine lines and imperfections.

The Stylo-Expert is high coverage so I tend to use it under my eyes for a flawless makeup finish, to cover up any blemishes and to highlight my lipstick.  When I am applying lipstick I tend to dab a little bit of the Stylo-Expert in the centre of my lips to give the illusion of having ‘larger lips’. It’s only a subtle difference but still effective!

I know some people prefer to use this concealer to dab on areas of makeup that have gone wrong, like a corrective pen.  I have done this once or twice around the corners of my mouth when applying lip liner or lipstick which has accidentally gone too far.  This is retails for £24.50 in Space NK.

Lash-Expert Twist Brush:

This mascara is truly amazing!  I have naturally long eyelashes; however they are rather straight, so before buying this, I was on the hunt for a mascara that kept the curl that I create with a lash curler, yet still give me length and volume.  This mascara does just that, not to mention there is no flaking that comes off of the lashes and crusts under your eye which come cheaper mascara’s tend to do!

The Lash-Expert is a ‘Two-Step Twist’ mascara which means that the brush changes when twisted.  When on Step 1, the mascara helps to exaggerate and lengthen the lashes, so you get the length on falsies.  It makes sure that the lashes stay separates too so your lashes don’t all stick together and give you a horrible ‘gloopy’ eyelash.  If you want more volume, then you twist the Lash-Expert wand, this is Step 2.  This step is not essential, but is great if you want a bit more subtle drama and volume for thicker lashes.  Brush this through your lashes until you achieve your desired look, but honestly I could not fault this product.  It is wonderful, and you only need to carry one mascara, not 2!

The Lash-Expert is relatively cheap for the price of a By Terry product and retails for only £25.  I have had this mascara now for 3 months, and it still wears like when I first bought it and has not dried out, definitely an amazing purchase!  This product can be bought at Space NK.

Cellularose Moisturising CC Cream:

cc cream

I bought this product quite a while ago and don’t use it enough, I bought the CC Cream to use on weekends or days that I’m not running around London.  The Cellularose CC Cream combines both skincare and makeup in one, it applies with a water-like consistency and is very lightweight.  It dries with a powdery satin finish and leaves your skin looking flawless with a hint of colour to waken you up, not to mention, it also smells amazing!

This product contains Oxydraderm, this targets the water molecule bonding sites on the face, so it provides the face with intense hydration when applied and doesn’t dry the skin.  It also has Date Kernel Extract so it has elements of anti-ageing in the skin care side and Cherry Oil which is brilliant at regenerating the skin.

Before Applying this product I always make sure to exfoliate my skin and give it a good cleanser, as I have found that if not the CC Cream can cling to my dry areas around my nose and under my eyes.  However, with a good skincare routine I can easily avoid this.  The Cellularose CC Cream pairs well with a dab of the Stylo-Expert Click Stick where needed and also Step 1 of the Lash-Expert Twist Brush when wanting to achieve a ‘no makeup, makeup’ look.  This product comes in 4 different shades depending on your skin tone and I have purchased it in the shade NO 3. Beige for an exact match to my skin colour.  This retails for £58 but is totally worth it as it is a product that also has skincare elements and gives you a radiant look, again this can be found in Space NK.

Please let me know in the comments if you have any of the By Terry products, which ones are your favourites or if you’d give any of them a go!

Lydia Elise Millen For Elizabeth Arden

After Lydia announced on her channel that she was releasing a makeup bag in collaboration with Elizabeth Arden, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.  The makeup bag was released on 29th March, is available in Boots stores over the UK and all you have to do is buy 2 products (one of which has to be a skin care product) to receive the free vanity case.

Lydia Elise Millen For Elizabeth Arden Vanity Case

I’m in love with this faux leather vanity case which Lydia designed, from the colour combination of the pink plush colour and rose gold accents and detailing, down to the branding.  When opened, this case has a large and clear mirror, which I’m sure you’ll all agree is essential when on the go! I love how sheek and practice this case is, as it is great to put your daily makeup essentials inside when on the go.

Of course, I love skin care and trying out new products to add to my regime, so I made sure to check it out on the day.  I looked in a couple of Boots stores on Regent Street and also Oxford Street to find a store which had the Elizabeth Arden counter, and finally, managed to find the store where the launch was actually happening on Bond Street!  The staff were very helpful and at the end I decided to purchase the ‘Eight Hour Cream – Intensive Daily Moisturizer for Face’ as well as the ‘Superstart – Skin Renewal Booster’.

Superstart Skin Renewal Booster:

superstart ea

I bought this serum in the 30ml which I have been applying after cleansing with my Clinique Liquid Facial Soap and the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3. The serum restores the skin’s surface and helps to repair and renew any damage that may previously have been caused to your face.  It is meant to enhance the results of the rest of your skin care products that you may use. This is also an item that I received inside the vanity case which I will be saving for when I’m travelling.

When at the Elizabeth Arden counter, this was the first product that I was told was a ‘must have’.  When the skins first layer is damaged, it looses moisture, cannot defend and protect itself and your skin cannot renew. The Sea Fennel and Flaxseed extracts which are used as a key ingredient, help to retain the moisture which the skin needs.  The Glasswort extract also helps the moisture retention in the skin, as it reduces water loss on the surface of the skin. Priobiotics Complex which is another ingredient, helps to strengthen the skin so that it can repair itself and also appear to be radiant, refreshed and healthy.

This can be applied morning and night, but so far I have only applied it in morning skin care routine, as I have a set night skincare routine.  I love that it is in a ‘pump bottle’ so that it is easy to use, and the formula is water consistency so it applies well to the skin when massaged in.  I am yet to feel the full results of the product but am excited to use it on a regular basis.

Elizabeth Arden – Eight Hour Cream For Face:

8 hour cream

I always struggle to find a moisturiser which doesn’t feel like you’ve dipped your face in grease, smells fresh and also leaves your skin looking luxurious and radiant.  This product formula is supposed to be absorbed into the skin quickly, as well as also helping in extreme weather conditions (as well as climate changes).  It softens areas which are dry and also soothes the skin all at the same time.  As the name of the product indicates, this cream protects your skin from the sun as it has SPF 15 protection, which is essential if you are exposed even to any form of artificial light.  The way to apply this product is by cleansing the face and neck, then massage onto the skin daily.  I have been using this face cream every morning, after applying the Superstart Skin Renewal Booster.  One of the best things about this product is that it’s for all skin types and again, it comes in a ‘squeezy bottle’ so you don’t need to put your finger in a tub of moisturiser and get excess product in the back of your nail!  When looking at the reviews on the Boots website, this product has been marked as a 5* product, and although I have only used this for a couple of days, so far so good!

Inside the vanity case:

all free gifts

Inside the vanity case I received a handful of goodies. I believe that another eye serum is supposed to be in the vanity case’s; however, it didn’t come inside mine!

The first item to the left is the Prevage – Anti-Aging Treatment Boosting Cleanser which comes included in a fairly large tester form and is usually £39 for 125ml.  I’m definitely glad that I get to try it before deciding to buy the product! This is a rich and moisturising cleanser that removes makeup, pollution on the skin’s surface and helps to refine the skins appearance whilst exfoliating the skin.  It is to be used when the skin is still damp so that the exfoliators can be activated and leaves the skin radiant and healthy.

I’m actually very excited to try out both of these serums as I have never used any out of little capsules before!  These are the serums which are in the golden capsules.  Both of these products are ‘Youth Restoring’ therefore I would recommend that you should definitely be giving these a go if you are 25+. The Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum is the product to the left of the two capsule tubes.  This is a light weight serum which smooths, firms and gives you a youthful appearance on the skin.  It also boosts the skins radiance and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  The product to the right is the Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum which again smooths and firms the skin but is specifically for your under eye area.

A product which I am already obsessed with is the Elizabeth Arden Gelato Plush-Up Lipstick.  I have applied it to my lips once to see what the consistency is like and I am loving how smooth yet hydrating this feels.  I believe that the lipstick comes in the full size, which is amazing as it usually retails for £22! The product is easy to build up, therefore you can wear as little, or as much as you like and is a great subtle dash of colour.  I especially love the colour for the spring/summer seasons as it will be a great pop of colour to my outfits.  If you are looking for a different colour then there are 20 different shades to choose from!

Let me know in the comments what you think of the collaboration vanity case!
